How to Decorate a Bird Cage With Cards
Birdcages aren't just for birds. They can be used for a variety of creative craft projects. For instance, turn it into a card holder for guests to drop their gifts at a birthday party or a wedding. Find a new birdcage that fits your budget, or repurpose an inexpensive vintage birdcage to create your card holder. All you need to complete this project are some fairly inexpensive materials like spray paint or ribbon, to match the event's color scheme.

1
Spread old newspapers or a tarp over a flat work surface in a well-ventilated or outdoor location. Place the birdcage on the work surface, and begin coating it with a spray paint of your choice. Allow the layer of paint to dry for 2 to 4 hours. Wear a pair of disposable gloves to check if it is dry to the touch before attempting to relocate it. Add as many layers as you need to coat the cage thoroughly. It may take two or three coats.

2
Lace ribbons of your choice through the rungs of the birdcage. Add as many or as few ribbons as you wish, but tie them off when you finish to secure them in place.

3
Tie a larger piece of ribbon in a big bow on the birdcage's handle.

4
Spray paint the wooden spring clothespins to match your color scheme, or leave them unpainted for a natural look. Allow time for them to dry thoroughly -- at least a few hours. Place the clothespins on the wire rungs of the birdcage.

Use markers to write a label on a piece of paper, to clearly indicate the birdcage's purpose. This could simply say "cards," or you could include additional information and instructions for guests. Cut the label out using a pair of scissors, and attach it front and center on the birdcage with one of the clothespin clips.

Attach photographs that are relevant to the event, using the remaining clothespins as holders.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of having the guests drop their cards into the decorated birdcage, another option is to use the clothespins as card holders.
Have someone watch over the birdcage on the day of the event, to ensure the safety of the cards inside.
