How to Build a Fishing Pole From House Tools
Many people have everyday objects in their homes which are useful for a homemade fishing pole. Those who do not have the time or money to buy a commercial fishing pole are still able to go fishing and enjoy the pastime. Homemade fishing poles are created to catch smaller fish, such as sunnies, walleyes and smaller trout or bass. Bigger fish, such as sea fish types, need commercial poles for successful capture.

1
Cut a fresh stick from a tree. Sticks from the ground will not work for fishing poles because dry sticks snap when a fish catches a hook. The stick needs to be between 4 and 5 feet long. Inexperienced anglers should begin with a shorter pole then move to a longer pole after practicing.

2
Cut a length of fishing line which measures 2 feet longer than the stick and tie it to the end of the stick. The line will measure between 6 and 8 feet. Items found around the home which are used for fishing line include kite string, sewing floss and cotton fishing line. Use a common shoe string knot to attach the string to the stick.

Attach a hook to the other end of the fishing line. Use a double knot to keep the hook attached to the line. If the hook has a barb, squeeze the barb closed with a pair of pliers.

4
Lace a bobber onto the line 2 feet above the hook. Bobbers can be created from any type of plastic which will float on water, such as pieces of plastic milk containers cut into 2 inch squares then tied onto the fishing line. Squeeze a sinker halfway between the hook and the bobber. Common household items used for sinkers are anything metal which will bend around the fishing line, such as metal washers.

Tips & Warnings
Carry pliers with you when you fish in case the sinker comes off the line and needs to be replaced.
Use caution when carrying the pole. The hook will be hanging off the end and could cause significant damage.
