Make sure that the relevant breaker -- which is often located in the laundry room -- is switched on. Sometimes problems are caused by tripped breakers.

Make sure the washer is set on an even surface if it is suffering from excess vibration during normal operation. This vibration may also be caused by overfilling.

Inspect the hoses that come from the wall into the washer if the water is not the right temperature. Valves coming from the wall are marked hot and cold, as are the connections on the washer, so make sure that they match up.

Check the drain hose if there are puddles building up under the washer; this could indicate a leak or a loose connection. Inspect the hose and rectify any problems that you discover.
