The beret hat has accompanied many different cultures and movements throughout its existence. The hat is associated with French painters, military special units and revolutionary guerrillas. A crocheted beret has a softer feel and is often associated with a laid back hippie or boho-chic fashion sense as well as Rastafarians with mounds of dreaded hair underneath.       Place the beret an inch and a half to two inches behind the hairline for a hippie boho-chic look. Part the exposed hair in the middle and leave it hanging down out of the beret. Pull the beret towards the back with the hair outside of the beret.

      Cover the ears with the beret and leave a side swiped bang in the front for a sophisticated look. The rest of the hair can be under the hat or left out in the back

      Place the beret an inch from the hairline and pull the hair back into the beret for a reggae style look. Cover all of the hair in the back with the beret and loosely slouch the hat in the back.

      Sit the beret on top of the head, covering the hairline and above the ears to achieve a French chic look. Pull the beret to one side of the head and leave the hair in the back and on the sides down.

  • Don't pull a crochet beret tight over your head; It is meant to slouch.
