Instructions

  1. Scarecrow

    • 1

Dress your child in old clothing. An old pair of denim jeans and a flannel shirt will work nicely.

    • 2

Tape straw to the inside of the sleeve cuffs and pant legs to create a stuffed look.

    • 3

Paint the child's face with washable face paint. Use a picture of the Scarecrow as your guide.

    • 4

Top off the outfit with an old straw hat. Tape straw to the inside edges on the back of the hat.

    Tin Man

    • 5

Dress your child in gray sweat pants and a gray sweatshirt.

    • 6

Spray paint a cardboard box just large enough to fit around your child's body with silver paint. Allow to dry thoroughly.

    • 7

Cut out the bottom the box completely. Cut a hole in the top of the box large enough for your child's head to fit through. Cut out armholes on the sides of the box that line up with the shoulders of your child.

    • 8

Use a large funnel to create the tin man's hat. Spray paint the funnel with silver paint. Use a heavy duty glue to attach a strip of either side of the funnel to keep it on the child's head.

    • 9

Paint the child's face with silver face paint.

    Glinda the Good Witch

    • 10

Dress your child in a long gown and shiny sandals.

    • 11

Use your child's play wand and crown. These items can also be found at dollar stores.

    • 12

Style your child's hair with soft waves or curls. An inexpensive blond wig will also do the trick.

    Wicked Witch of the West

    • 13

Fashion a black dress from a large black garbage bag. Use black tape to adjust the bag to fit.

    • 14

Add an inexpensive witch's hat that can be found at a discount store.

    • 15

Have your child wear striped stockings. You can also paint stripes on white stockings.

    • 16

Paint your child's face with green face paint.

    • 17

Have your child carry a broom to finish the look.

    Dorothy and Toto

    • 18

Have your child wear a blue and white gingham dress over white tights and a white shirt.

    • 19

Give your child a pair of ruby red slippers to wear, or consider spray painting an old pair of shoes with red spray paint and glitter.

    • 20

Fashion a wig from auburn colored yarn, or dye an inexpensive wig for a thrift store.

    • 21

Add a basket with a small stuffed dog. The basket can also serve as the trick-or-treat bag.
