How to Make Unusual Bracelets

How to Make Unusual Bracelets thumbnail
Juxtapose different textures for an unusual bracelet.

Unusual bracelets are individual and cannot be found anywhere else. One way to have an unusual bracelet is to custom make your own. Collect unique items for your bracelet at yard sales and around your home, and use items that are not typically used for jewelry, such as small plastic toys and fishing lures. Construct the bracelet with fishing tackle into a simple project any beginning jewelry designer can accomplish.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place a small toy, ideally made of plastic or rubber, into a vise to drill a hole into it for the bracelet. Arrange the toy so you can easily access the area you want to drill. Choose toys that are not more than 5 inches long or it may be difficult to wear. Also, find toys that are lightweight.

    • 2

Drill a hole into your toy with a 1/16-inch drill bit, which is typically used for drilling holes for beads. Repeat with the other toys.

    • 3

Remove the hooks off fishing lures for your unusual bracelet. Open up metal rings that hold the hooks with bottle nose pliers. Once you remove the hooks, close up the rings so you can use them on your bracelet.

    • 4

Open the large looped end of a snap swivel and thread a plastic toy by where you drilled the hole. Thread a small looped end another snap swivel onto the large opened snap swivel with the toy. Close the opened snap swivel. You want to join all the snap swivels in this fashion. The smaller loop should join onto a larger loop.

    • 5

Open another large looped end of a snap swivel and thread on a fishing lure. Thread the small looped end of another snap swivel. Continue threading your toys and fishing lures until you are satisfied with the design.

    • 6

Open up a large loop on a snap swivel to unclasp the bracelet. Wrap the bracelet around your wrist and close the snap swivel loop to clasp the bracelet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use any found materials, such as pom poms or metal rings, onto your bracelet for a unusual look.

  • Collect objects that are not sharp or scratchy as charms for your bracelet to prevent irritation on your wrist.

  • Consider the colors and textures of the objects when designing the bracelets.

  • Adult supervision is needed for this craft.
