How to Move on to the Next Mission in "Grand Theft Auto 4"
In "Grand Theft Auto 4" you take on many missions and you usually have several to choose from at any one time. If you've begun a mission but later decide you want to quit, there isn't a clear way to just stop the mission and move on to another one. You do have a couple of options, though. The simplest solution is to just load the most recent save, but that may not work if you haven't saved your progress in a while. The other solution is to simply fail the mission. Sometimes failing the mission is easy, but often you'll have to get creative.
Instructions
-
Load a Previous Save
-
1
Press the "Start" button if you're playing on a console or the "Escape" key on the PC.
-
2
Navigate to the "Game" section of the menu.
-
-
3
Select "Load."
-
4
Select the most recent save game available. The date of the save game is displayed to the right.
-
5
Select "Yes" when the game confirms that you want to load.
Fail the Mission
-
6
Press the "Start" button on a console or the "Escape" key on the PC.
-
7
Look at your current mission objective in the "Brief" section.
-
8
Fail your objectives. If it's something specific like chasing another vehicle, then you need to do just the opposite of that, like walk or drive away from your target. When you do so, the game or a character will warn you that you're about to fail the mission and in a few moments the mission is over and you can move on to another one. If your mission is something generic like "Find a Car," though, then you'll have to fail it in a more dramatic way like opening fire on your accomplices or injuring Niko enough that he has to go to the hospital. An unfortunate "slip" off of the roof of a building or the side of a bridge will probably do the trick.

Tips & Warnings
Save often so that you can use the first method more often.
Just remember that if you go to the hospital, you'll lose 10 percent of your total funds (up to $10,000). Also, if you attack an accomplice and are subsequently arrested, you'll be fined and you'll lose all your weapons and body armor. Unless you don't have many weapons in the first place, you should do everything you can to avoid arrest, even when failing a mission on purpose.
