Avoid washing hair for 48 hours after the Wave Nouveau application. Newly permed hair is fragile due to the chemical processes involved in applying them. Washing hair can strip it of moisture, making each strand susceptible to breakage. During this period supply the hair with constant moisture by scrunching glycerin and propylene glycol-rich products like Wave Nouveau Coiffure Moisturizing Lotion, Wave Nouveau Coiffure Moisturizing Mist and Wave Nouveau Coiffure Daily Humectant through the hair. Blot with a towel to remove excess moisture.

Apply light moisture to hair daily. One humectant product used sparingly once or twice a day is sufficient. Comb moisturized hair with a wide tooth comb. Wear curly hair loose or in protective styles like buns and braids. Transform hair from curly to straight using ceramic flat or curling irons. Create new styles by roller setting or molding the hair in a wrap and sitting under a hooded dryer. Brush hair only when wearing as a straight hairstyle.

Sleep with hair in a satin bonnet to help it retain moisture. Upon waking pull on the curls to elongate them. Put moisturizing product into your hands, then into your hair, scrunching the product through the length of the hair to revitalize the curl.

Wash and condition hair twice a month. Cleanse hair with a moisturizing shampoo for curly hair, then use a hydrating conditioner. Once a month apply a moisturizing and detangling deep conditioner after washing and conditioning. Comb the deep conditioner through hair from front to back with a wide tooth comb. Put hair up in plastic wrap or a plastic conditioning cap. Place a thermal heat cap on top of the plastic conditioning cap. Remove the caps and rinse hair after 20 to 30 minutes. Scrunch layers of moisturizing products through the hair to replace moisture lost during the cleansing process after each wash and condition.

Trim ends with each repeat Wave Nouveau application. Previously permed hair incurs more damage with each treatment and can become dehydrated with straight or stringy ends that detract from the perm's appearance.

Tips & Warnings
Make an appointment with a reputable stylist to have your hair treated with the Wave Nouveau. This is permanent involving several chemical applications and is best done by a professional.
Use humidifiers in the winter to help humectants draw moisture into the hair. Wave Nouveau treated hair can become brittle and hard to manage when sufficient moisture is not allowed into the hair shaft.
Avoid excessive use of daily moisturizer. Too much product causes buildup and gives hair a greasy appearance.
Avoid blow drying the hair and pressing it with hot combs. Extreme heat from these appliances can damage the perm.
Avoid straightening the hair frequently. Repeated heat manipulation weakens the perm.
Know that if a transition to a traditional relaxer is desired, most of the Wave Nouveau treated hair may have to be cut off. Chemicals from relaxers react with treated hair and can cause severe damage to the hair shaft. Traditional relaxers can only be applied to Wave Nouveau processed hair once there is substantial new growth.
