How to Hide Vector Edges in Illustrator CS4
While you create or edit vector objects in Adobe Illustrator CS4, the program highlights your active path, its anchor points and their control handles, in the same color applied to the layer on which you're working. If your document only contains one layer and you don't alter Illustrator's default settings, your active-layer highlight color shows up as a light blue. You can turn off Illustrator's display of the edges of your active object in order to avoid distractions while you work.

Choose "Show Edges" from the View menu to reveal your active object's edges once again. Deselect your object by clicking on an unused spot on your artboard or choosing "Deselect" from the Select menu. This time, your edges vanish because your object becomes inactive.

Tips & Warnings
Hiding the edges of an active object isn't the same as deselecting it.
If you want to view the edges of your active object but find the color applied to its layer distracting, choose another layer color by double-clicking on the layer's name in the Layers panel and selecting an alternative from the Color drop-down menu. Choose darker colors to minimize distraction.
Don't confuse hiding an object with hiding its edges. When you hide an object, it becomes completely invisible and does not print.
