How to Format Your iPod Shuffle Manually
Formatting the iPod Shuffle is done automatically the first time you sync your device with iTunes on your computer. If you experience problems with your Shuffle, or wish to sync your device with another computer, you will have to reformat it. You can use the Restore feature of iTunes to manually format your iPod Shuffle.

Attach your iPod Shuffle to your computer using the supplied USB cable.

Click "Start" located in the bottom left corner of your screen. Click "All Programs" then click "iTunes." Your iPod Shuffle appears under the list of available devices located on the left side of the iTunes window.

Click the iPod Shuffle icon.

Click the "Summary" tab from the center pane of iTunes.

Click the "Restore" button located within the Summary screen.

Follow the on-screen prompts to restore and reformat your iPod Shuffle.
