How to Change the Primary Printer on Windows

Your default printer is automatically selected when you choose to print from any application in Windows 7. Although you generally have the option to change printers within an individual program's print window, making a frequently used printer the default will save you the extra effort. It will also allow you to use this printer with one-click printing options, which are available in some programs.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu and select "Devices and Printers."

    • 2

Locate your preferred printer, listed in the Printers and Faxes section.

    • 3

Right-click the printer and select "Set as Default Printer." A check mark will appear on the printer's icon to signify the device's default status.
