How to Knit a Purse With the Loom

A loom-knitted purse is made on either round or rectangular-shaped, also known as a long loom, knitting looms. The width of the purse is determined by the size of the knitting loom while the depth is determined by the amount of completed rows. Purses range in length from 6 inches to 18 inches depending on the purpose. Create a simple knitted purse with a flap on a medium-size long loom. Learn the process of creating the flap on the long loom. Use the same process on a round loom.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the 12-inch long loom on a flat work surface so the pegs are pointing up. Turn the loom so the horizontal tie off peg is pointing toward you.

    • 2

Cast-on with an E-wrap stitch. Continue the E-wrap stitch to complete a purse 10 inches long. The E-wrap stitch is done by wrapping the yarn from the back of the peg to the front then to the back. Move to the next peg and continue the process. Wrap the pegs twice to begin. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. E-wrap each peg. Repeat the process until the purse is 10-inches long.

    • 3

Cast-off the left side of the pegs to obtain a smooth finished edge. E-wrap the first peg to the left of the horizontal peg. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. Move the finished stitch to the next peg. Repeat the process along the left side of the loom.

    • 4

Place the loop from the last peg on the left side on the first peg on the right side of the loom. Slide the bottom loop over the top.

    • 5

E-wrap the same peg and each peg across. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop on each peg. E-wrap each peg and create a stitch until the flap is 8-inches long.

    • 6

Cast-off the right side of the pegs to obtain a smooth finished edge. E-wrap the first peg to the left of the horizontal peg. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. Move the finished stitch to the next peg. Repeat the process along the right side of the loom.

    • 7

E-wrap the last peg with a stitch. Slide the bottom loop over the top. Cut the yarn approximately 2 inches from the peg. Pull the end through the loop. Pull tightly to form a knot. Weave the end of the yarn back and forth through the last row of stitching to hide.

    • 8

Stitch the bottom of the purse together. Turn the purse inside-out. Thread a blunt-end needle with a piece of yarn approximately 18 inches long. Match the bottom edge of the purse. Stitch back-and-forth between the layers to secure in place. Turn the purse right-side out.

Tips & Warnings
