How to Make Afghan Tassels

Making yarn tassels for your afghan is easy.

Tassels are a decorative, hanging trim used to enhance a variety of sewn or stitched items. Their number and size depends on personal taste and pattern requirements. Making tassels to embellish your hand-knit or crocheted afghan is a quick and easy task. Requiring just coordinating yarn and a pair of scissors to complete, these tassels are quick and versatile, perfect for adorning afghans. Make as many tassels as you desire or need for your pattern. Some afghan patterns call for one tassel per corner; other patterns require more.

Things You'll Need

• Yarn to match your afghan
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Cut 40 strands of yarn 12 inches long; align and place the strands on a table or firm surface.

2. Wrap and knot a shorter length of yarn around the centers of all the strands. Trim the knot's tails. Fold the tied 12-inch-long strands in half.

3. Two inches down from the top of the fold, wrap and knot another length of yarn around all of the folded strands. This forms the "head" of the tassel. Trim the knot's tails.

4. Attach the tassel to your afghan. Repeat the above steps to make as many tassels as needed.
