How to Make Bobbins
Yarn or thread is wrapped around spools known as bobbins. Bobbins prevent the yarn and thread from becoming tangled while sewing or knitting. Creating a handmade bobbin requires cutting an expired plastic gift card in the shape of a letter "H". This method is an inexpensive and eco-friendly way to recycle plastic cards. The supplies for the project may be purchased at a craft or hobby store.

Use a utility knife or scissors to cut 1/8-inch indentation into the top of the horizontal line of the letter "H". Use sandpaper to smooth the corners, edges and indentation of the plastic gift card.

Insert the end of the yarn or thread into the indentation. Wrap the yarn or thread around the horizontal line of the letter "H". Continue this process until all the yarn or thread is wrapped around the card. Tie the end of the yarn or thread to one of the vertical lines of the letter "H".
