Instructions

    • 1

Gather a 2-inch wide section of hair around the ear. Use the hair in front of the ear if you want the braid to rest right at the hairline. Use the the hair right behind the ear if you want the braid to rest at the top of the head, approximately 2 inches from the hairline.

    • 2

Pull the remaining hair into a ponytail at the back of the head to keep it out of the way. Take a comb to the gathered section of the hair. Gently remove any knots or tangles to prepare the hair for a smooth braid. Comb the hair in the direction of the opposite ear, so that the strands rest on the head like a headband.

    • 3

Divide the gathered and combed section of hair into three sections and braid by placing the outside sections over top of the middle section, alternating sides. Loosely braid for a more casual, slightly disheveled look. Tightly braid for a more formal, clean look. As you braid, fight gravity by pulling the strands in the direction of the opposite ear to keep the braid on the top of the head.

    • 4

Secure the end of the braid with a tiny rubber band. Then pin to the head with a bobby pin. Depending on the length of your hair, the braid may or may not reach the other ear. If the braid only reaches part of the way around the top of the head, gather a section of hair from the opposite ear and braid in the other direction to balance the headband.

    • 5

Apply a few squirts of hair spray to the braid. Release the hair from the ponytail or keep it pulled back, depending on your preferred look.
