How to Hook-Up a Cisco Wireless Router to HughesNet
HughesNet satellite Internet service allows customers in remote areas access to high-speed Internet. DSL service is only available within five miles of a phone company's central office. In some rural areas, satellite is the only available alternative to slow dial-up access. With the HughesNet system, your broadband modem is connected to a satellite through a dish-shaped antenna. Hooking up a wireless Cisco router to the modem is simple and provides Internet connectivity anywhere in your house without additional wiring.

1
Connect the satellite modem and the router with an Ethernet patch cable. Insert one end of the cable into the port on the modem labeled "LAN." Insert the other end of the cable into the router port labeled "Internet" or "WAN." These router port labels have the same meaning. Which one appears on your router depends on the model.

Use the second Ethernet cable to connect a computer to the router. Insert one end of the cable in the computer's network interface card. Insert the other end in any open LAN port on the router.

Tips & Warnings
The default mode of most models of Cisco routers will automatically configure communications with the HughesNet modem. If you purchase a used router and so are unsure of your router's configuration, return it to factory default settings by pressing and holding the reset button for 10 seconds.
