How to Navigate a Roundabout
A roundabout is a type of road junction used where multiple roads meet or as an alternative to an intersection with traffic lights. They keep traffic flowing and reduce idling time, and can sometimes increase the traffic capacity of an area. Roundabouts are also referred to as traffic circles and rotaries. Roundabouts exist throughout the United States and licensed drivers should know how to navigate around and through them.

Reduce speed as you approach the roundabout and abide by the posted speed limit.

Select which lane you need to be in for your exit if there are multiple lanes in the roundabout. Signs prior to entering the roundabout can assist you in determining the correct lane. Do not change lanes once in the roundabout as this can be dangerous.

Yield at the entrance to the roundabout, looking to your left to see if there are other cars already in the roundabout. Traffic will be going counterclockwise. Wait until there is a gap in traffic and enter the roundabout.

Maintain a slow speed, moving with the flow of traffic, and continue driving counterclockwise until you reach your exit.

Use your right turn signal prior to your exit to warn other drivers you will be leaving the roundabout. Continue to maintain a slow speed as you exit the roundabout.

Tips & Warnings
Drive a vehicle only if you have a license.
Do not stop in a roundabout unless continuing would cause an accident.
If you miss your exit, continue driving through the roundabout until you reach your exit again.
