How to Build a Scrapbook Shelf
Scrapbook shelves are handy for organizing different colors and types of paper, as well as scrapbooking supplies such as scissors, stickers and markers. Using inexpensive wood, you can construct a unit with many shallow shelves to accommodate a wide variety of paper types and sizes while keeping them flat, neat and organized. You can use the same shelf to store bins of scrapbooking materials or the scrapbooks themselves. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 2 1-by-12 boards, 4 feet long
- Router table
- Measuring tape
- 1/4-inch router cutter
- Sandpaper
- 2 12-by-12-by-1 boards
- 18 hardboard sheets, 12-by-11 inches and 1/4 inch thick
- Wood screws, 2 1/2 inches long
- Drill
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay the 4-foot long boards flat on a router table.
-
2
Measure and mark a horizontal line 2 inches from the ends of the boards. Continue measuring and marking straight lines at 2-inch intervals down both boards.
-
-
3
Cut 3/8-inch deep slots into these lines, using a router cutter. Your scrapbook shelves will slide into these slots.
-
4
Drill a narrow hole in each corner of the square boards.
-
5
Place the two 4-foot boards about 1 foot apart with the grooved sides facing each other. Line up the holes in one square board with the ends of the 4-foot boards and drill pilot holes into the ends of the long boards.
-
6
Screw the square board to the 4-foot boards. Repeat this process with the other square board on the other end of the 4-foot boards.
-
7
Stand the shelf unit upright against the wall.
-
8
Slide hardboard sheets in the grooves to make scrapbooking shelves. You can remove shelves to accommodate larger items, if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
If you use larger paper for your crafts, you can make a wider shelf unit using the same techniques described in this article. Simply place the sides farther apart and change the measurements of the individual shelves and end pieces accordingly.
