You can use Google Analytics to track visitor segments for your websites.

The Google Analytics service, which is free for anyone with a Google or Gmail account, can be a valuable tool for website designers and managers. After you link your Web pages to your Google Analytics account, the service begins tracking visitor activity on your site. Google Analytics produces reports with basic information, such as how many people visited your site and how long they stayed on each page, but you can also set up your own segments using custom values and expressions.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Google.com/analytics and click on the "Access Analytics" button. Then log into the site using your Google username and password.

    • 2

Click on the name of the website for which you want to define custom segments.

    • 3

Click on the "Advanced Segments" button at the top of the Reports section.

    • 4

Click on the "Create a New Custom Segment" button.

    • 5

Click on the type of data you want to track, such as Keyword or Browser, and drag it into the area with dotted line borders.

    • 6

Open the "Condition" drop-down menu and choose how you want to measure the custom segment.

    • 7

Fill in the text field to the right of the Condition menu with the comparison value you want to use for the custom segment.

    • 8

Click the "Test Segment" button to see a preview of what your custom segment report will look like.
