How to Make a Children's Sun Visor
When stepping outdoors for fun in the sun, keeping the sun out of your children's eyes may help them enjoy their playtime more. Although you can purchase sun visors in a variety of colors and styles, children may enjoy the process of making their own instead. Make a children's sun visor out of basic crafting supplies. Children may even enjoy personalizing their visors out of various materials.
Things You'll Need
- Craft foam
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Puffy fabric paint
- Glitter glue
- Craft foam letters
- Adhesive-backed flat gems
- Hole punch
- Decorative elastic (1/8-inch wide)

1
Measure and draw a 10-inch by 4-inch rectangle onto the craft foam. Cut the rectangle out with the scissors. Draw the visor shape inside the rectangle, rounding the edges for the front of the visor. Draw the shape of the inside edge of the visor -- the part that will sit against the forehead -- by drawing a half-oval concave shape along the long edge opposite the curved front edge of the visor. This can be measured against the length of the child's forehead for a better fit, if desired. Cut out the visor shape with the scissors.

2
Decorate the visors. Use the puffy fabric paint and the glitter glue to draw lines, shapes and designs on the foam visors. Children can write their names with the fabric paint or the glitter glue, if they desire. You can also provide craft foam letters with adhesive backing to enable the children to add their names across the foam visors. Remove the adhesive backing from the flat gems and stick them to the foam visors to decorate them. Allow the paint and glue to dry completely before proceeding with the project.

3
Make holes for the elastic with the hole punch. Position the holes at the two edges that will sit against the child's head (at the top and bottom of the half-oval shape).
-
4
Cut a piece of decorative elastic long enough to stretch between one hole in the visor, around the back of the child's head and attach to the other hole. Add about 1 to 2 inches for tying the elastic and cut off the required amount.
-
5
Tie one end of the elastic to one of the holes in the craft foam visor. Tie the other end of the elastic to the other hole.
-
6
Place a visor onto a child's head by positioning the concave side of the visor against the child's forehead and stretching the elastic around the back of the child's head.
