How to Fundraise for Social Groups

How to Fundraise for Social Groups thumbnail
An auction is one way to raise funds for your social group.

Social groups encourage community involvement and support local charities. These groups often raise money to finance scholarships and service projects. When your social group wants to support a charitable community project, you can offer some easy fundraising ideas. These ideas will help you raise money while providing entertaining activities for your group and your community.

Instructions

    • 1

Conduct a 50/50 raffle. This type of raffle requires minimal investment and very little effort. Have group members sell raffle tickets to friends and colleagues for $1 each. Those purchasing tickets write their name and phone number on the ticket or an entry form.

    • 2

Pick a ticket or entry form on the designated end date of the raffle. The winner of the raffle gets to keep 50 percent of the proceeds from the ticket sales. Your social group keeps the other 50 percent.

    • 3

Host a silent auction. Pick a date for the event and secure a location, such as a school auditorium or your local library or community center.

    • 4

Advertise the auction with fliers, on social networking sites and by word-of-mouth at your childrens' schools, the office and everywhere you go in between.

    • 5

Ask local businesses to donate items for auction. For example, ask a local baby store to create a basket filled with baby care items and a gift certificate. Ask a lawn service to donate a month of lawn care, or ask a restaurant to donate a dinner for two.

    • 6

Solicit food and beverage donations from local vendors or have your group members provide refreshments at the auction.

    • 7

Display auction items on tables with a box in front of each item. Sell tickets for $1; guests place their tickets in the box in front of the items they want to bid on. At the end of the night a ticket is drawn from each box and the winner gets to take the donated item home.
