How to Add Embed Code in Craigslist Ads

Add embed code in Craigslist ads to include URL links to external content or images you've hosted on your own Web server within your ad without showing the URL links themselves. Craigslist allows you to embed certain HTML code within your ads, including codes for embedding URL and images. Avoid embedding images someone else has hosted on his Web server -- this is known as "hotlinking" and can get your posts flagged and removed.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Post to Classifieds" and choose a main and secondary category for your ad. Provide a title for the ad, your geographical location and the price of service or merchandise if you are offering something for sale. Enter and confirm your email address.

Compose the text of your ad. Open the website or image you want to embed within the ad in another browser tab or window, double-click within the address bar, right-click and choose "Copy" to copy the URL.

    • 3

Click your mouse in front of the word or phrase where you want to embed the URL and enter the code as follows:

<a href="http://yoururl.com/>Clicking this text takes you to an external website.</a>

Replace "http://yoururl.com/" with the Web address you copied.

Press the "Enter" key after the line or paragraph where you want to embed the image, then type the following code:

      <img src="http://yoururl.com/yourimage.jpg"></img>

Replace "http://yoururl.com/yourimage.jpg" with your actual image URL.

Choose "Continue" to see how your ad appears on the site, then input the image verification, agree to the site's "Terms of Use" and click "Submit." Click the confirmation URL within the email Craigslist sends to your inbox to post your ad.
