How to Make Your Nails Shiny Without Clear Polish thumbnail
You can achieve naturally shiny nails without the help of clear polish.

Many people prefer the look of naturally shiny nails, a look that can be achieved without the use of harsh chemicals that can damage nails, causing splitting, peeling and yellowing. You can make your nails look bright and lustrous with a few simple steps using natural ingredients found in your kitchen pantry and common manicure tools you can buy at most drug stores. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Shape your nails first. Using an emery board or washable glass file, file in only one direction to help prevent splitting. The vibration of the filing strengthens the nail. A square shape with a rounded edge makes your nails more resistant to cracks.

Buff your nails after they have been shaped using a manicure buffing block as opposed to an emery board to avoid damaging the surface of the nail. Buff the entire nail and not just the edges in a quick and steady motion, moving the buffer in only one direction like you would when filing to ensure the nail does not overheat. If you do not have a nail buffer on hand or do not want to purchase one, you can wrap a piece of soft flannel over a nail file as an alternative. You can also use a jeweler's polishing paste on the buffer to add a bit of extra shine.

Remove any residual polish that may be on your nails by rubbing them with a lemon that has been cut in half. This will help rid your nails of any stains. Soak your hands and nails in a bowl of warm oil and coat your nails and cuticles. Popular oils to use are avocado oil, olive oil or almond oil. To really pamper yourself, add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the bowl. Wash your hands under running water once the oil has been applied or wipe it off with a soft, wet cloth. For a quick, daily treatment between manicures, you can massage the oil into your nails to maintain a natural shine. Full manicures should be done every other week.
