How to Stop a Satellite Dish From Shaking in the Wind

A shaking satellite can interfere with your signal.

If you lose reception whenever the wind blows, or are worried about your satellite dish as it shakes in the wind, there are a few methods to hold the dish steady. You probably need to ground the device to keep it from shaking. Once you finally steady the satellite dish, you will be able to enjoy your programming with the peace of mind that comes with your handiwork.

Things You'll Need

• Wrench
• Bubble level
• Limb clipper

Instructions

1. Check to see if your satellite dish is perfectly level. Hold a bubble level along the base of the satellite dish to test if the device has been installed along a flat surface. If the device is installed at an angle, it may sway in the wind if it its base isn't secured properly on a flat surface.

2. Tighten the bolts on the dish with a wrench to keep it from moving when the wind blows. Be careful not to over tighten the bolts, as you may have to readjust the satellite dish in the future.

3. Realign the dish by setting it in an area that is free of obstructions. While it is important to secure the satellite dish, it is even more important to keep a steady signal by clearing out tree limbs and other debris from its path.

• Placing the satellite dish on a pole secured in cement is an excellent way to keep the device steady when the wind blows.
