A nurse costume for a little girl is inexpensive and easy to make.

Children enjoy dressing up as community helpers, such as police officers, firefighters and medical workers. Nursing is among the most well-known and respected of all community helper professions and draws the admiration of many little girls. Dressing up as a nurse is a popular choice for Halloween and career days at school. Nurse costumes don't have to be expensive. Instructions

    • 1

Purchase or locate a solid white blouse and solid white skirt. These items will form the foundation for the nurse costume.

    • 2

Cut out two 3-inch pieces of red duct tape. Place one of the pieces on the upper left hand portion of the blouse vertically. Place the other piece of tape over the first piece horizontally to form a cross.

    • 3

Cut two pieces of duct tape long enough to wrap around the circumference of the upper arm. Stick one of the pieces of duct tape on the outside hem of the sleeve to create the illusion of a red trimmed hem. Repeat the process to create a red hemmed sleeve on the other arm.

    • 4

Cut out four pieces of 4-inch duct tape. Apply one of the pieces of tape horizontally on the lower right hip area of the skirt to form the illusion of a pocket. Place another piece of tape vertically on the inner edge of the duct tape to complete the faux pocket. Repeat this process on the other hip to form two identical faux pockets.

    • 5

Place a button on the center of the front of the blouse. Thread a needle and stitch the button to the blouse. After the button has been secured to the blouse, tie off the thread on the inside of the blouse. Repeat this process until all of the buttons have been attached in a vertical row along the front of the blouse.

    • 6

Fold a piece of stiff white paper in half. Draw a five-sided polygon with a pointed top on one half of the paper. Use scissors to cut the polygon out. Place a white plastic headband inside of the fold. Add glue to the headband to attach the headband to the fabric. This completes the nurse's hat.

    • 7

Cut out two pieces of duct tape. Stick the two pieces of duct tape to the front of the hat in the shape of a cross. Affix red duct tape to the perimeter of the hat to close the edges and create a decorative faux seam. This completes the decorative accents for the nurse's hat.

    • 8

Cut out two pieces of duct tape. Stick the duct tape to a white bag or purse in the shape of a cross to create a medical bag for the nurse to carry.

    • 9

Hang a stethoscope around the nurse's neck.

    • 10

Put on white shoes and white stockings.
