How to Make a Walrus Mask
Walruses come from the scientific order Pinnipedia. Students in elementary school will learn that a walrus has blubber to keep it warm, four flippers to help it get around and whiskers to help it find food at the bottom of the ocean. Once students understand a bit about walruses, they can create walrus masks and use them to act out a few walrus behaviors.

-
-
3
Draw a nose in the center of the paper plate with a permanent black marker.

4
Tell the children to glue 15 to 20 2-inch pieces of brown yarn around the walrus's mouth to represent the whiskers.

Cut a straw in half so that each student has two pieces. Have the students glue the straw pieces coming out from the whiskers to represent the tusks of the walrus.

Punch a hole in the left and right side of each child's mask. Attach a 12-inch piece of yarn to each side so that the mask can be tied around the child's head.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have any straws, you can cut tusks out of white construction paper.
Younger students should use safety scissors instead of regular scissors, as they could easily get cut if they are not careful.
