How to Make a Powerful Mage in "Oblivion"
"The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion" is an adventure role-playing game placed in the fictional province of Cyrodiil. Players begin with a humble prisoner and carry the character to heroic heights capable of a huge arsenal of spells. Quantity is nothing, however, without quality, which you can bestow to your warrior via genetics, talent and training. Through these means, mages become the most powerful characters in the game with opportunities to inflict massive damage that a swordsman wouldn't dream of.

Click "New" on the title menu to begin a new game and create a new character. When crafting your avatar, select either the "Breton" or "Altmer" race, which are the two most naturally gifted races for spellcasting. In terms of damage, Altmers have the edge by beginning with more Magicka, which is used to cast spells, and being more proficient with destructive magic.

Select a "Mage" class to instill greater willpower and intelligence in your character, the two attributes that govern sub-classes of magic. This also allows your character to level up when improving spells, whereas other classes level up by improving skills with weapons and physical exertion. When a mage levels up, his total magicka increases, allowing more spell-casting before you have to replenish it.

Select "The Mage" as your birth sign. This quality imbues characters with 50 more magicka at the beginning of the game, meaning you can cast more spells and train your magical proficiency before replenishing.

Seek out trainers in the Mages' Guild to develop your magical abilities without having to cast spells manually. Bralsa Andaren near the Wayshrine of Kynareth is a master trainer of destruction magic, which is the mages' source of damage-dealing.
