How to Pay an Overdue Tax Bill in Illinois
Illinois, like most states, requires residents of the state, or people who work in the state, to file annual income tax returns and pay the corresponding tax liability. Businesses that operate in the state of Illinois must also pay taxes each year to the Illinois Department of Revenue, or IDR. If you have either a personal or business tax bill that is overdue, you have a number of options for payment.

1
Locate your most recent bill or notice sent to you by the IDR. If you cannot locate a bill, you will need your Social Security number or employer identification number, or EIN.
-
2
Check your account on the IDR website to confirm the amount due. Because interest and penalties continue to accrue on past due balances, the balance may be more than the one showing on your most recent bill. If you do not have access to the Internet, you may contact the IDR by telephone.

Navigate to either the individual or business payment site on the IDR website to make your payment. Individual tax payments may be paid by electronic funds from a checking account or by a credit card. Business accounts cannot make payment by credit card. If you do not have access to a computer, or do not wish to pay over the Internet, you may visit a local IDR office to make your payment, or you can mail your payment.
