Instructions for Laminating Supplies

Laminating is the process of placing a delicate object such as a sheet of paper into a plastic laminating sleeve and heating up the plastic so it melts, forming a protective barrier. Laminating is a common technique used to preserve documents, as it helps make them waterproof and stain-resistant. When laminating an object, generally you will need only two supplies: a laminating machine and a plastic sleeve to cover the document.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in your laminating machine to allow it to heat to the required temperature. The laminator must melt the plastic, so it needs some time to reach a high-enough heat. Most laminators have an indicator light on the front to let you know when the device has heated sufficiently.

    • 2

Prepare the sheet for laminating while the device heats. Open your laminating sleeve and place the object to be laminated inside. Align the object so that it is completely covered by the laminating sleeve -- if the object is smaller than the sleeve, don't worry about it as you will trim off any excess.

    • 3

Hold the laminating sleeve firmly and insert it into the laminator. The laminator will automatically detect the sleeve being fed into it and will pull the sheet into the laminator.

    • 4

Allow the sheet to feed through the laminator. Don't push the sheet or attempt to pull it back out. Hold it steady so that the laminator will evenly heat the laminating sleeve.

    • 5

Remove the finished sleeve from the other end of the machine and allow it to cool. When it is cool, use a paper cutter to trim off any excess.
