How to Make Plastic Packaging
Using a heat sealer is a quick and easy way to make plastic packaging for products. Impulse heat sealers function by sending a short burst of electricity through a resistance wire to weld the two sides of a plastic bag together and form a seal. With access to an impulse heat sealer, all you need is a supply of plastic bags to get started packaging your own goods from home.

1
Purchase an impulse heat sealer and a supply of bags that can be used to package your goods. There are a number of different types of impulse heat sealers to choose from, most of which are characterized based on how they operate. Hand sealers are usually tabletop models that are operated by placing a bag between the jaws of the machine and clamping down to form a seal. Foot pedal sealers are often free standing units that are activated through the use of a foot pedal, leaving the operator's hands free to handle the product or bag. Automatic impulse bag sealers give operators additional freedom because they have jaws that activate automatically by way of dial-controlled sequence timers.

Plug in the impulse heat sealer and set the sealer's timer to your desired sealing time. Most impulse heat sealers have a sealing time setting that ranges from one to 10. For thicker plastics, set the sealing time to a higher number; however, if you find that the sealer is burning the plastic, set the sealing time to a lower number.

Fill the bags with your product.

4
Spread the open end of the bag along the sealer's Teflon rim and press down on the sealing arm or foot pedal to close the jaws of the machine and melt the plastic together. The amount of time to seal the bag will vary depending on the sealing time setting.

5
Lift the sealing arm and remove the excess plastic from the sealer.

6
Use a heat gun on a low setting to shrink the plastic to perfectly fit the product.
