How to Install a Track Dog Racing Pulley

How to Install a Track Dog Racing Pulley thumbnail
Track Dog produces a number of racing parts for the Mazda Miata.

Track Dog racing pulleys are designed to increase the pressure of Track Dog superchargers for the Mazda Miata. A slightly smaller pulley than the stock supercharger pulley, they cause the internal components of the supercharger to spin faster, thereby increasing the boost pressure fed into the engine. A pulley puller is necessary for the removal of the supercharger's stock pulley. These are available from Track Dog's website or catalog.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hood of the Miata. The supercharger is situated on top of the engine, and the pulley you will be replacing is at the front of the supercharger, at the end of a cone-shaped protrusion. The car's fan belt runs over this pulley.

    • 2

Remove the nut that secures the pulley to the supercharger with the socket wrench.

    • 3

Trace the fan belt around the other pulleys until you find the pulley that is attached to an arm. This pulley is the tensioner. Slide the socket wrench over the nut at the end of this pulley, and then turn it. The arm will move, releasing the tension on the fan belt.

    • 4

Slip the fan belt off of the supercharger pulley while you have the tensioner's pressure off of the fan belt.

    • 5

Install the pulley puller onto the supercharger pulley. The arms at the outside of the pulley puller grip the edges of the back side of the pulley. The threaded bolt should be situated in front of the threaded rod from which you removed the first nut. Tighten the pulley puller, and the pulley will slide off of the threaded rod.

    • 6

Align the racing pulley over the shaft from which you removed the old pulley, and then gently tap it in place with a block of wood. When the pulley is seated, replace the fan belt onto the pulley. You will not have to adjust the tensioner pulley for the installation. If the fan belt came off of the other pulleys, use the fan belt diagram on the core support of the Miata to replace it. The core support is located just above the car's radiator.
