Plywood is a very versatile -- if unlovely -- material.

Plywood is not typically used in the construction of dining room furniture, due mainly to its lack of aesthetic value. It is, however, often used in the do-it-yourself construction of workbenches or work tables, or tables that must be serviceable but do not have high aesthetic requirements. It is a simple matter to cut a piece of plywood out to make a tabletop. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Determine how large a tabletop you require.

    • 2

Measure out the required distances on the piece of plywood and make marks at each interval where a cut will be needed.

    • 3

Place your plywood piece on the saw horses, or on the table saw if using a table saw.

    • 4

Line up the saw blade with the first mark you made in Step 2. Do not place the saw blade directly against the wood.

    • 5

Turn on the saw and guide the blade into the wood, cutting along the lines you marked out in Step 2. Cut all the way through the plywood. Do not stop and pull the blade out of the wood when you hit the opposite corner of the tabletop.

    • 6

Continue cutting the plywood until you have cut out the tabletop as needed.
