How to Make a French Manicure Nail Tip Strip
A traditional French manicure features fingernails with white tips and a clear base nail. The process also allows for bolder colors on both the tip and the base. Performing a French manicure at home can be tricky since the tips require a straight line. However, making nail tip strips, or tip guides, with tape provides a line for the nail polish brush to follow. Things You'll Need
- Scotch tape
- Scissors
- White nail polish
- Cotton swab
- Nail polish remover
- Top coat nail polish

Cut a piece of Scotch tape to a size slightly longer than the width of your thumb. Affix the tape to the thumb so that the upper edge of the tape lines up with the lower edge of the tip section of the nail. Press the tape until it is firmly in place and smooth. Repeat the process with the rest of the fingers on the first hand.

Use white nail polish to paint the tips of the nails above the tape line. Work carefully, as you still don't want to get too much polish on the tape. Allow the nails to dry for two minutes. Pull the tape off each finger gently to avoid tearing the edge of the white polish line.

Moisten a cotton swab with nail polish remover and use the swab to carefully clean up an errors that may have gotten around the tape. Apply a top coat to the nails when finished and allow to dry for five to 10 minutes before proceeding to the other hand.

Repeat the steps with the other hand.
