How to Make a Connection on LinkedIn
LinkedIn is a social network designed for professional networking. Other social networks allow you to add friends; on LinkedIn, you add "connections." Connections are people you know, such as co-workers or classmates, or they can be people you are interested in knowing professionally. Connections are not instantaneous; the person to whom you are connecting won't be added to your connections until he accepts the invitation.

Tips & Warnings
LinkedIn encourages connecting only to people you know personally. If you frequently attempt to connect to people you don't know, your ability to add connections may be restricted.
