DIY Trailer Pad
When hauling livestock in a trailer you run the risk of injuring the animals if they hit the side of the trailer. One solution to this problem is to install trailer pads. A trailer pad is a leather-like pad that is installed in a livestock trailer and prevents the animals from injuring themselves. These pads are installed one at a time but you can complete the job on your own and it won't take more than a few minutes of your time.

- Phillips screwdriver (if necessary)
- Power drill with 3/16-inch drill bit (if necessary)

Decide whether you are going to attach the pads with screws or nylon retainer clips. The advantage to nylon "push pin" retainer clips is that they are easier to install than screws and you don't need to use as many of them.

Place the trailer pad over the area of the interior wall of the trailer where you would like to install it.

Use your power drill to drill the holes on the corners and sides of the borders of the pad and into the trailer wall. For a 12-inch pad, drill four holes; drill six for a 24-inch pad, eight for a 40-inch pad and ten for a 60-inch pad. That is if you are using nylon clips. If you are using screws, follow this procedure: six screws for a 12-inch pad, eight screws for a 24-inch pad, 10 screws for a 40-inch pad and 12 screws for a 60-inch pad.

Push the pins into each of the holes to secure the pad to the trailer. Use a Phillips screwdriver to secure screws to the pad.

Repeat the steps to install as many trailer pads as necessary.
