How to Get Carnivine in "Pokemon Pearl"
Carnivine is a Grass-type Pokemon introduced in the fourth-generation of Pokemon games which includes "Pokemon Diamond," "Pokemon Pearl" and "Pokemon Platinum." Carnivine is a powerful Pokemon with a high special attack and only two glaring weaknesses, Fire and Ice. In "Pokemon Pearl," the only place you can encounter a Carnivine is in the Safari Zone in the Great Mash Area. Even then, it has a 10% encounter rate so you may spend some time searching before you finally find a Carnivine.

Travel to the Safari Zone in Pastoria City. Enter the Safari Zone building.

Pay the attendant 100 Pokedollars to enter the Safari Zone.

Travel to the Great Marsh Area and walk around until you encounter a Carnivine.

Throw Safari Balls at the Carnivine until it's captured. If it runs away, resume walking around until you encounter another one.

Tips & Warnings
You only have 500 steps and 30 Safari Balls. The Safari Game ends when you run out of either, so be sure to carefully allocate your steps and Safari Balls.
