Using the doll jacket pattern that you have selected, take an old piece of material and cut out the pattern in the jacket according to specifications. Following the pattern, begin to sew the pieces of cloth together. You can do this quickly. Don't worry about having a perfect sewing job. Your goal is simply to have a rough model of what the finished product will be. Once you've finished sewing the model, try it on the doll. If it fits, you're good to go. If it doesn't, alter the pattern to best fit your doll.

Take the material that you intend to use for the jacket and pin the pattern to the material. Begin tracing the pattern it on the the side of the cloth that won't be visible, making small dashes. When you have finished tracing the pattern, cut it out.

Next, start at the bottom of the sleeve and proceed to stitch upwards using 1/4-inch seams until you reach the armhole. Blind stitch the hem of the sleeve. Repeat for the other sleeve.

Tips & Warnings
Consider using Velcro dots instead of buttons, as it's easy for a child to pull off the buttons and possibly choke on them.
