How to Plan Scaffolds
You can plan scaffolds by determining the type of design that is needed for a particular project. This will require learning about the different options that are available for scaffolding such as the planking and decking that is used. Most state and local building regulations mandate the use of guard rails on the scaffold. Planning for scaffolds requires proper preparation and gathering all necessary information.

1
Examine the building or work site to determine the type of scaffolding that you will need. This can be a typical wood pole scaffold, a mobile scaffold unit or a suspension scaffold.
-
2
Determine the materials that you will need for the scaffold. This includes the framing and the platform that will support the weight of workers and material.
-
-
3
Make a note of any hazards that are present at the job site that are associated with scaffold use. Hazards can include soil composition and the condition of the building. Any hazard needs to be eliminated or able to be controlled prior to erecting the scaffold.
-
4
Sketch a design for the scaffold based on the requirements of the job site. Use all pertinent information that you have gathered to develop the design of the scaffold.
-
5
Verify the design and plan for the scaffolding with the construction crew or job foreman.
-
6
Gather all the materials that are needed to construct the scaffold. Label each piece that is broken or will not be used. Set these pieces aside.
