How to Crochet Rose Slippers
Perk up a pair of crocheted scuff slippers with the addition of rosebuds and leaves you make separately and sew to the tops. Construct warm and durable soles by sandwiching a layer of quilt batting between two separate crocheted sections. These slippers are in a higher class than the usual crocheted gifts family members accept with a smile and promptly hide in the bottom of a drawer. While pink is the usual color for crocheted roses, personalize these slippers by using red, white or even salmon for the blossoms.

Instructions

Sole
-
1
Use the cream yarn to make the entire sole. Make 24 chain stitches with the yarn and crochet hook for a size small slipper. Skip the first three chains, then double crochet in the next 20. Work five double crochets in the next chain.
-
2
Double crochet in the first 19 loops of the opposite side of the foundation chain stitches. Make three chain stitches. Double crochet in the last foundation chain. Join to the beginning of the double crochet round with a slip stitch.
-
-
3
Chain three, then double crochet in the joining slip stitch. Work two double crochets in the next stitch, then double crochet in each of the next 19.
-
4
Work two double crochets in each of the next five stitches and one double crochet in each of the next 19. Make two double crochets in each of the final three stitches. Slip stitch into the beginning double crochet to join the round.
-
5
Chain three and then double crochet in the joining slip stitch. Make two double crochets in each of the following three stitches. Double crochet in the next four.
-
6
Work half double crochets in the following four stitches to begin shaping the arch of the sole. Single crochet into the next seven stitches. Make half double crochets in the subsequent four.
-
7
Make two half double crochets in the next 10 stitches, then work one half double crochet in the following four. Work single crochets in the next seven. Half double crochet in the four stitches and double crochet in four.
-
8
Work two double crochets in each of the following six stitches. Slip stitch into the beginning chain. Cut the yarn with the scissors and fasten it off. Make three more sole sections.
-
9
Cut two pieces of quilt batting similar in shape to the soles but 1/2 inch smaller all around. Make a sandwich of one sole section, a batting piece and a second sole section.
-
10
Stick the crochet hook through all three layers and attach the yarn with a slip stitch. Chain one, then work one round of single crochet through all layers. Slip stitch into the beginning single crochet, cut the yarn and fasten it. Make a second sole the same way.
Vamp
-
11
Chain 23 stitches using the cream yarn. Skip the first three chains, then double crochet in the next two.
-
12
Attach the white yarn and work a double crochet in the next three chains. Use the cream to work double crochets in the following three chains. Alternate three white and three cream to the end of the row to total 21 stitches.
-
13
Turn the row and chain three stitches with the cream yarn. Skip the first stitch and double crochet in the next two. Switch to the white yarn and double crochet in the next three stitches. Alternate cream and white checks as you did on the first row.
-
14
Work two more rows of the double crochet check pattern. Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Make another vamp section identical to the first.
Edging
-
15
Use a slip stitch to attach the cream yarn to the turning chain of the last row you worked. The right side of the vamp will be facing you.
-
16
Chain one, single crochet into the beginning slip stitch, and work one row of single crochet for the edging. Cut the yarn and fasten it.
-
17
Attach the cream yarn to the opposite end of the vamp and work another row of edging as before. Repeat the edging on the second vamp section. Sew one vamp to the top of each completed sole using the cream yarn and blunt tapestry needle.
Rose and Leaf
-
18
Chain 16 stitches with the pink yarn and the hook. Skip three chains and work two double crochets in the next. Work three double crochets in each of the remaining stitches. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
-
19
Thread the tapestry needle with the tail of pink yarn. Coil the row of stitches to form a rosebud. Run the needle and yarn through the stitches' bases to secure the shape. Make a second rose and sew the roses to the tops of the slippers.
-
20
Chain eight stitches with the green yarn. Skip the first chain and single crochet in the next. Work a half double crochet in the following stitch, a double crochet in the next three, half double crochet in the next and a single crochet in the last chain.
-
21
Fasten off the green yarn. Make a second leaf. Use the green yarn and tapestry needle to sew one leaf beside each of the roses on the slippers.
