Go to the back of the washer and check the hoses connected to the unit. These hoses should be flush with the connections. If the hoses are loose, the connections will leak water to the bottom of the unit. Use a pair of channel locks to tighten the connections.

    • 2

Check the faucets in your laundry room and check the hose connections. Use a pair of channel locks to tighten the connections to the faucets. If the connections are not tight, water could leak into the walls in your laundry and cause mold or water damage.

    • 3

Turn the faucets clockwise if you cannot get the water to fill the basket in your washer. Turn the faucets until they will not turn anymore. This means that they are fully open.

    • 4

Turn the water off and remove the hoses from the faucets and the connectors on the washer. Put the hoses into a bucket to drain the water out of them. Make sure there are no obstructions in the water hoses and reconnect them.

    • 5

Unplug the power cable from the washer and check the pins to make sure they are not broken or bent. If the pins are bent, use a pair of pliers to bend them back in place. If the pins are broken, have the cable replaced.

    • 6

Turn the timer knob to one of the "Washing" settings. Listen to the timer to make sure it's working properly. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the timer knob off the control console on your washer. Unclip the timer wire housing and replace the timer with your new one.

    • 7

Check the drain hose coming off of the washer. This goes into the drainpipe inside your laundry room wall. Make sure there is no debris clogging the drain hose. Clean the drain hose out if needed to help your washer basket drain properly.

    • 8

Use a level to see if your washer is balanced. Place the level on the horizontal and vertical ends of the washer. Check the level to make sure that the washer is balanced. Use a wrench to loosen the washer feet on the bottom of the unit. Balance the washer through the level to make sure that the washer is not vibrating while in use.
