Few things are as relaxing as dining by candlelight. And few things are more irksome than finding drippings on your carpet the next morning. Don't stress. You can fix this pesky problem fast.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Put ice cubes in a plastic bag and cover the wax until it hardens.

  2. Step 2

Gently scrape the excess using a spatula or a spoon.

  3. Step 3

Set your iron on low heat. Place a brown paper bag without any writing or designs (the ink may transfer to the carpet) over the stain. Press the iron on the bag for no longer than a couple of seconds. Keep iron heat low so carpet fibers don't get scorched.

  4. Step 4

Repeat and replace the bag as necessary until the wax no longer transfers to the paper when heated.

  5. Step 5

Blot with dry-cleaning fluid until color is no longer being removed. (Use cleaning solvents sparingly to prevent damage to carpet backing.)

  6. Step 6

Blot with a solution of 1/4 tsp. dishwashing liquid and 1 cup (8 fl oz/250 ml) warm water to remove all traces of cleaning fluid. Rinse and blot dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Resist the urge to substitute gasoline, lighter fluid or carbon tetrachloride for dry-cleaning fluid. These fire and breathing hazards aren't meant for indoor carpets.
