If your convertible's top suddenly won't budge, you may not need to interrupt your day with an emergency trip to the auto-repair shop. Often the hood will not go up or down for simple reasons that you can check yourself. Try the following before calling your mechanic.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Check all the latches that hold the top open or closed. You'll feel sheepish but happy if this is the cause of the problem.
Step2
If the hood won't close, make sure the lid for the boot (hood hideaway or cubby) is open. If it's not, open it.
Step3
Check for a blown fuse (see How to Fix a Faulty Car Fuse).

Tips & Warnings

  • Some cars have manual tops--only steps 1 and 2 apply to these.
