How to Fix Dashboard Lights That Won't Light

Shares & Saves

If all the lights on your dashboard seem to be out, the problem could be a bad fuse or even something like a turned-off switch.

  • Locate the knob or dial that controls the brightness of the dashboard lights. If the control is not immediately evident, check your owner's manual.

  • Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse.

  • Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights (see <a href="; target="_top">How to Fix a Faulty Car Fuse</a>). Replace the fuse if necessary.

  • Call your mechanic if neither of these steps fixes your problem.

Tips & Warnings

  • If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem, neither of which you can easily fix at home.
