When upgrading a car, the most common concerns are cosmetics and performance. But in at least one kind of upgrade, comfort comes into play. When exchanging the factory seats of your car for aftermarket seats, your comfort should be one of the foremost concerns.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Consider your budget. Some seats are a lot more sophisticated than others and can include such features as electronic adjustments of the lumbar support.

  2. Step 2

Consider the major brands of car seats. These would include Cobra, Keiper Recaro and Flofit. Check out automotive magazines for brand names.

  3. Step 3

Contact one or two of the manufacturers and get the names of some dealers in your area. Commonly, auto sports stores sell car seats as well as road wheels, steering wheels, aerodynamic kits and other accessories.

  4. Step 4

Ask to see the store's seat display so that you can inspect the seats.

  5. Step 5

Consider safety features. Things to look for? A high, close back rest that can support and protect your whole back, a fully padded adjustable head rest, adjustable seat height and inclination (for achieving the best sitting position and correct angle of view), a metal frame with a stable cross piece that can absorb deformation energy, and a pleasingly shaped seat cushion.

  6. Step 6

Consider ergonomics. Look for pronounced side bolsters that are designed to hold the body in an ergonomic position and minimize muscular exertion, seat cushion extension for thigh support, and height and tilt adjustment.

  7. Step 7

Sit in the seats to check out their comfort and ergonomic design.

  8. Step 8

Consider how the seats will look in your car.

on 3/2/2006 I wanted to add some sports seats to my 2003 Mustang. After checking on eBay and the car magazines, I knew the ones I wanted. The day I was going to order them I ran into a guy who had fixed his car up, he said that his racing seats were terrible to sit in during long trips. He suggested that I have vinyl or leather added to the seats. I decided to go with his advice and my seats are tight and they stand out.
