Step 1
Prepare to pay a premium. You get what you pay for sometimes, and this is one of those times.
-
Step 2
Take golf lessons. Do not underestimate the need to impress people with your ability. Solid skills can make up for any negative qualities that others (mistakenly) may believe you possess.
-
Step 3
Find a sponsor. Unless you recently appeared on the cover of BusinessWeek, you probably need to have an existing member pass your application to the membership committee.
-
Step 4
Review the different tiers of membership. Equity members own the facilities and usually make club decisions. Social members pay lower dues but have restricted access to facilities.
-
Step 5
Decide what else you want to do besides play golf and investigate the facilities at various clubs. Some also have spas, tennis courts, swimming pools and gyms.
-
Step 6
Look into member benefits, primarily reserved tee times during peak periods. Also consider access to club buildings for private events such as parties and weddings.
