Talk to professors in the field and ask where paying jobs that will suit your specific interests are located.

Understand that money for research grants is tight and that contacts made through networking are invaluable.

Expect to teach in addition to conducting research in marine biology, if you work for an academic institution. Your hours may be long, but you will receive full benefits.
