Here is a simple project to delight the gardener on your holiday shopping list - make Christmas tree garlands or ornaments from seed packets of his or her favorite plants! After the holidays, the packets can be opened and the seeds planted. What could be better than a gift that gives twice the pleasure?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ribbons
  • Elmer's Glue-All
  • Glitter
  • Metallic Garlands
  • Seeds
  • Scissors

  • Fishing Lines
  • Seeds
  1. Step 1

Select colorful seed packets containing varieties that grow well in your area.

  2. Step 2

Fold and pleat the seed packets. Starting with the outer edge, make a 1/2-inch fold along the length of the packet. Fold the packet back and forth so that it resembles an accordion or a fan.

  3. Step 3

Make a gardener's garland by threading the folded packets onto fishing line. Fold the packets in the center and wrap with metallic garland. Thread the fishing line through the garland, suspending the packets on the invisible fishing line. Use one packet every 8 to 10 inches along the line.

  4. Step 4

Make ornaments of seed packets as well. Spread white glue along the outside edges, then dip the pleated packets into glitter while the glue is still wet. Hang the ornaments by wrapping them at center point with metallic garland. Thread 12 to 18 inches of fishing line or ribbon through the garland and tie in a loop for hanging the ornament on the tree.

Tips & Warnings
  • Shake the seeds so they aren't all at the bottom of the package. This will make the packets easier to fold.
  • Use fresh seeds for best results (for growing!). Every seed packet has a printed date.
