Step 1
Choose a motif. Think in terms of poinsettias, reindeer, Santas, stars ... or whatever suits your spirit this holiday season.
-
Step 2
Embellish a plain tablecloth by using fabric paint or permanent markers to add a Christmas border to fit your motif. A stencil or stamp can speed the process.
-
Step 3
Put a small icon from your tablecloth's border motif on a corner of each matching napkin.
-
Step 4
Use markers to dress up a strip of paper (about 7 inches long by 3/4 inch wide), and then glue the ends together around each napkin. Voila: matching napkin rings to go with your tablecloth motif.
-
Step 5
Enhance plain place cards with your chosen motif by using a marker or small stamp. Set the place cards on miniature plate stands or easels placed above each place setting on the table.
-
Step 6
Personalize clear glass plates for each place setting. Cut out a paper star (or other icon from your motif) and attach it temporarily to the back of a clear-glass plate with adhesive dough or other removable adhesive. Then spray paint over the star, leaving a misty outline of the star on the back of the plate. Use china paint (available at craft stores) according to directions to embellish a plain ceramic plate if that's your Christmas-dish preference.
-
Step 7
Put your motif (or bands of Christmas-compatible colors) on glasses with craft paint designed for glassware.
-
Step 8
Create a papier-mâché centerpiece. This could be a made-from-scratch Christmas tree crafted over a chicken-wire cone. Or, you can purchase a pre-made papier-mâché form in the shape of an angel, Santa or reindeer at a craft store.
