How to Ship Parcels Within the United States

Things You'll Need:

  • Cardboard Boxes
  • Address Labels
  • Marking Pens
  • Packaging Tape
  • Packing Peanuts
  • Cardboard boxes
  1. Step 1

    Weigh the benefits of each service you have access to.

  2. Step 2

    Consider the United States Postal Service, UPS and Federal Express. Each service has different rates and delivery options.

  3. Step 3

    Follow the instructions in "How to Prepare Parcels for Shipping" in the Related eHows.

  4. Step 4

    Print the complete address on the box in large letters. Make sure the label doesn't cross a seam or closure.

  5. Step 5

    Put an address label inside the box as well, in case the original label is lost or damaged.

  6. Step 6

    Provide the post office box number or apartment number, if applicable. Remember that UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a post office box.

  7. Step 7

    Put a return address on the top left-hand corner of the box. Include your name, phone number and complete address, including the ZIP code.

  8. Step 8

    Schedule a pickup with UPS or FedEx or take your packages to a drop-off location.

  9. Step 9

    Request additional insurance and the Postal Service's delivery confirmation if needed.

  10. Step 10

    Keep your receipt so that you can track delivery or claim a loss.
