The movements of Wushu (Kung Fu) have a flowing continuity. As soon as one movement is completed, it begins to flow into another one. Accordingly, a boulder block is not made in isolation.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Face forward in a fighting stance: one leg ahead of the other, the body turned to the side at the hips. Stand on the balls of your feet.
Step2
Prepare to block by making both hands into fists. Your forward arm should be bent, ready to guard your face, shoulder and ribs. Your back arm should be guarding your chest.
Step3
Wait for the attacker to strike. Swing your forward arm across your body to deflect the strike away from its intended target. Use your forearm as the blocking surface. Keep your arms close to your body; do not overextend. Let the opponent come to you.
Step4
Once the opponent's strike has been blocked, follow up with a strike or a lock using your back hand and/or arm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your hands in fists. This strengthens your striking surface while protecting your fingers from injury.
  • Make certain you block in a fluid, circular movement. Don't let your body become off-balance.
  • Practicing the martial arts is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity.
